"We conclude IDEA grants parents independent, enforceable rights ... which ... encompass the entitlement to a free appropriate public education for the parents’ child."
Winkelman v. Parma City School Dist., 550 U.S. ___ (2007)
As parents, our number one responsibility is to our children. To ensure that they're healthy. To ensure that they're safe. And to ensure that they are well prepared for their future. Formal education is an essential part of that preparation for the future. However, we often find ourselves in disagreement with those in whom we have entrusted our children's education. It becomes particularly complex when our children have special needs that require accommodations and modifications to their educational environment to allow them to realize their maximum potential.
Thankfully, there are laws that give us the right to take part in designing our children's education. Laws that govern when, and to what extent, accommodations must be made. Laws that govern disciplinary action in the event of a behavioral disruption. It is when these laws are followed that we have the best chance of securing a bright future for our children.
For 15 years, The Law Office of Allison B. Vrolijk, LLC has helped parents make sure these laws are followed. We can help you understand those laws; can help you learn to use the laws to your child's advantage; and can give you legal advice regarding your child's particular situation. If your previous efforts to advocate for your child have failed, we can represent you in meetings with the school district, to bring the "heavy hitters" to the table to make sure those laws are followed. We can also represent you in court if no amicable solution is attainable at the school level. In other words, we can help you take control of your child's educational future.
While the Law Office of Allison B. Vrolijk, LLC focuses primarily on the area of special education advocacy and law, we recognize that children's behavior, and the resulting consequences, can dramatically alter a child's future. So we are also able to handle matters stemming from the behavior of juveniles, both within the school district and in the juvenile justice system.
